Joshua Schare

Joshua Schare is a consultant with the Advocacy Marketing Group. Previously, he was director of development and communications for Lamp Community, a Downtown Los Angeles organization dedicated to serving homeless people with mental illness on L.A.’s Skid Row. There, he was responsible for overseeing $5-million in annual public and private fundraising.

From 2002-2003, Schare was senior campaign communications specialist for Service Employees International Union (SEIU) as where he directed public relations efforts for campaigns based in more than a dozen SEIU local unions in the Western Region United States.

Prior to that, Schare was director of communications and marketing for the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center where he worked to oversee the Center’s national and regional advertising, internal and external publications, marketing, Web site, media relations, and merchandising.

From 1995-1997, Schare was marketing manager for David Bartlett Associates/Architects. From 1991-1994, Schare was executive director of the Coalition for Learning About and Undermining Homophobia (CLUH).

Schare served as an appointed member of the University of California Community Concerns Committee and on the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Gay and Lesbian Affairs for UC Santa Cruz. In 1995, he received the Charles E. Merrill Social Service Award for his leadership in community organizing efforts.

He has served on the board of directors of Lamp Community and on the organizing committee for OutAuction, an annual fund-raiser for homeless youth at Hollywood’s Jeff Griffith Youth Center.

Schare received his bachelor’s degree in politics and history from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Schare resides in Venice, California with his partner Keith Kolber.
